The Truck definitely gave off a weird vibe to Adela. Something was off, but she couldn’t exactly place what it was. She takes a quick breath. The trick was to think logically. Rather than work with what you don’t know, try to work with what you do know. LanternO'Red Request: [4df+3] Roll: [+, +, -, -] Result: 3 The first and foremost thing is, if the truck is giving off bad vibes, the civilians on the field are both in danger and potentially a liability. She positions herself between Penelope and the Truck as best she can, saying, “Ma’am, either head through the gate or head into the guard house. Go now.” Not really waiting for a reply, to used to the quick actions of Mordian soldiers, Treston turns her attention back to the truck, trying to visually clue herself into what’s making her so uneasy. Ilona kept a stern expression, but shook her head. "No, I'll check in with my command to get the full write-up on it. do I need to sign for these two or stay with them?" With a solid effort, she managed to only wave to the man and child, versus actually looking at them.

Ilona kept a stern expression, but shook her head. "No, I'll check in with my command to get the full write-up on it. do I need to sign for these two or stay with them?" With a solid effort, she managed to only wave to the man and child, versus actually looking at them. “No, we got this,” the Steel Legionnaire said, “You can get back to your post. Just spread the word about the kid ID policy to your comrades for us if you can please. If you have questions on it, well, there’s the command phone; and if that’s too scary then I’m not going anywhere.” If Trooper Brembenak took a peek she’d see Xavier was now conversing with the woman in light gray Administratum robes that Ilona might have recognized from being in the line earlier. However, his daughter was looking at the Mordian with big, curious blue eyes. ((When Ilona steps out and sees the truck she will suffer future tests at a -1 while it’s there since it bothers you to such a degree that it occupies some of your attention. If you wish to push through, brush aside, or otherwise repress these negative feelings and ignore the penalty, roll for with a target of 3 with whatever Approach seems appropriate.))
The sense of foreboding continued to mount for Cudjal until it reached an eerily silence climax as the truck halted. In this moment, the PDF trooper force these feelings down with a quick squeeze of his eyelids and a slow exhale. It was just a truck, there is nothing wrong with a truck. [[Force roll to overcome dread =3]] But why was this truck so wrong? Vernard's senses from his subterranean work perked up. If it looked like a rat and felt like a rat, it's a frakkin' rat. At a slow and deliberate pace, Cudjal started to move towards the divers side of the vehicle's cab. As he did, he suttlly tried to spot what could possibly be giving off this bad feeling. [[Careful roll to spot what is wrong = 2]] With eyes wide behind her goggles, Prue puts her back to the wall and remains locked in on the now stationary truck, gripping her lascarbine so hard it creaks. The sense of dread emanating from the truck manifests as paranoid vigilance. She can’t take her eyes off the truck for even a second, even a blink. That’s when something will happen, when she blinks. She takes a few shuffling steps, back still pressed against the wall, finger twitching just over the trigger. (( Careful roll to have an adequate sense of caution instead of psychic dread: -1)) The Truck definitely gave off a weird vibe to Adela. Something was off, but she couldn’t exactly place what it was. She takes a quick breath. The trick was to think logically. Rather than work with what you don’t know, try to work with what you do know. LanternO'Red Request: [4df+3] Roll: [+, , , -] Result: 3 Penelope wouldn’t need to be told twice. She’d give Specialist Treston a nod before happily and quickly scurrying away through the gate. No one could blame her; they were all feeling the foreboding aura from the truck but some could handle it better than others. For Specialist Dekker, this feeling was probably something she’s never really felt before and it terrified her. There was something wrong, something dreadful hiding in that truck. Her instincts that she honed in the jungles of Armageddon screamed at her that something was off. She of course couldn’t see it, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t there. The ambushes from the jungles taught her that too well. (( Specialist Dekker failed her role to resist the truck’s dread. She will take a -1 to all rolls while it is on scene as it occupies her thoughts.)) Private Cudjal had already braced himself for the truck and had plenty of experience dealing with unpleasant things. He worked in the sewers after all with rats, fecal waves, trash piles taller than him, and other unspeakable things. While this was a new type of ill feeling, the rat catcher dealt with it like every other thing. Besides, there was nothing wrong with this truck. Outwardly anyway. When he went to the driver, he’d see a clean shaven, blue eyed man in gray coveralls that looked like it had some use. He also had a simple gray watch cap covering his black hair. He had a brown leather jacket with his hands firmly in his jacket pockets as he huddled in on himself. If he was affected by the ominous aura it didn’t show, but it was clear the cold did. Seeing Vernard, he’d give him a nod. As for the rest of the cab, it was pretty empty and looked fairly standard. The heater was roaring in an attempt to warm the cab. Nothing seemed off about it. Whatever the bad vibes were coming from, it wasn't from the driver nor the cab. While she acknowledged the bad vibes from the truck, Specialist Treston steeled herself by simply focusing on the task at hand. Naturally, as both a Guardswoman and a medic her first task was to separate the civilian from the potential threat. With Penelope now gone she could focus on trying to identify why she was feeling this way. Nothing visual stood out to her, perhaps it was something else? Maybe a psyker? But… that didn’t seem right either. They would likely be more subtle. It felt more like… a void. And that’s when it clicked. In Adela’s medical training they briefly covered beings known as Blanks or Pariahs. Her teachers described them as anti-psykers; their very existence is an abomination to anything vaguely connected to the Warp to the point where psykers are in pain around them. She was told this aura could also be strong enough to affect normal people too. However, as much as one may loath it, they were much safer than psykers and to be treated like any other Imperial citizen.

Upon reaching the side of the cab, the PDF trooper had taken in as much as he could about its content. Everything seemed to be in order, which didn't explain away the impending dread. The driver keeping his hands in his pockets was a concern though, he'd have to keep his eye out for any dangers the driver might be concealing.
Vernard risked a quick look over to the other guard personal. Dekker was up against a wall, either holding it up or just providing healthy overwatch in this situation. The medic on the other hand looked a bit more unoccupied and able to assist.
[[Roll to raise voice = 2]]
"Specialist Treston, can you do a scan of the truck for me?" Cudjal called out, his voice still managing an audible volume despite not usually speaking so loud. He turned his attention back to the driver, giving a cough to clear his straining throat. "Evening sir, ID and hands on the steering wheel please." Cudjal said, trying to use the lease amount of words possible.

Hearing Cudjal’s request, Dekker brings up her lascarbine, covering the back of the truck with a slightly wavering hand. She is muttering into her gasmask, too quiet and muffled to be intelligible, reciting a list of the dangers of the Armageddon jungles set to rhyme- a calming technique from her youth. “…rock wasps and rad-asps, sinking sand and ork traps…”

Treston could almost feel her gut lurch at the thought of this dreaded feeling being caused by a so-called blank. She’s had little experience with them, other than the small knowledge of their existence and the fact that they can cause discomfort and uneasiness on the average human. Like being downwind from the tent of the recruit nicknamed “Beans”. They weren’t considered mutations at least, for the little comfort that thought allocated.
Upon Cudjal’s request Adela, trying not to show her reluctance, begins to slowly patrol around the truck, checking underneath briefly to make sure there were no stowaways or unfriendly gifts.
LanternO'Red Request: [4df+2] Roll: [+, +, , -] Result: 3
As she passes Dekker she can almost feel the other trooper’s nerves. Feeling some words of wisdom and encouragement may be in order, she whispers, “Keep calm, Specialist. It’s just another truck, like all the other vehicles we’ve checked. It probably smells worse than it is.”
LanternO'Red Request: [4df+3] Roll: [+, , -, -] Result: 2
Finally Adela approaches the back to peek inside.

Ilona pointedly did not return the child's stare as she exited, noticing the truck a moment later and feeling a wave of unease pass over her. Her lips twisted in a snarl, the brutal training of Mordian coming to her aid as she steadied herself.
It was a truck. And it felt wrong. That was a Tuesday on Mordian.
The trooper moved forward, not even realizing that she was stalking, long strides eating up the ground between herself and Vernard at the driver's door. The others were clearly showing the same effects, this truck was odd, and she wanted to be in prime position to shoot the hell out of it should it turn out to be more than just odd.
She cleared her throat as she came up behind Vernard, the sound coming out more as a growl than anything else. A sign to him that he had at least one Ironguard watching his back as she glowered at the truck driver.
((Invoking Ilona's stunt "Iron Without" to push through the unease of the vehicle. Trucks aren't scary. Ilona is scary.))

Trucks aren't scary. Ilona is scary.)) Private Cudjal’s shouting nor Trooper Bembenek’s glare didn’t seem to intimidate the driver. When asked to keep his hands on the wheel while getting his ID, the man would put his left hand on the wheel, look down as he shuffled slightly, then pull up an off-white ID card which he handed to the PDF trooper. Vernard would remember that this color was often used for Guardsmen, and indeed it looked like a Guardsmen ID with his name being Corporal Ishmael Castillo who was part of the Lucifer Blacks. Perhaps the most startling thing though was Ilona clearing her throat behind him.

The bottom of the truck had no strange or unusual protrusions and was as dirty as one could expect going on these roads. As for the back though, like the rest of the body it too was solid metal with two metal doors latched together. There were two window slits that one could theoretically peek in, but they were closed and it didn’t seem possible to open from the outside.

However, the medic’s words managed to reach her in her mania. Perhaps… if a Mordian wasn’t afraid… maybe Specialist Dekker the seasoned veteran shouldn’t be so paranoid as well? ((Due to Specialist Treston’s attempt to calm her down, Prue may make another attempt to resist the bad vibes from the truck with a target of 3. Do not add the penalty for failing last time.))
((Reminder that there is an auspex available. Pretty sure it’s still in the gatehouse.))

"What's in the truck?"
Cudjal question was as blunt as the club he used for rats. Hopefully the answer would be as simple as his vocabulary. Observing the ID, everything seemed in order to him. If it wasn't for that throne forsaken feeling, this truck would be out of sight by now.
The growling from behind him made Cudjal tense up and pause. More out of instinct than fear. One had to tread carefully in the sewers. Looking over his shoulder, he relaxed as he realized it was Ilona. Her sneer reminded him of some of the faces first timers make in the underground tunnels. He held the card over his shoulder so she could have a good look of it herself. "See anything out of place?" Cudjal said, hoping an actual guard could pick up something he might of missed.

“Forgive me, but it appears I’m going to have to perform an Auspex Scan,” Treston says, trying to sound pleasant, but a slight bit of annoyance does creep into her voice, “Don’t let the truck through until the scan is complete.”
Without waiting for a response, Adela races back towards the guard house intent on grabbing Auspex surveyor. After just a moment of searching she grabs the surveyor and heads back out.
“Hold please, this should only take a moment,” she say as she begins scanning the truck.

The Mordian’s lack of concern does nothing to alleviate Prue’s dread. All it serves to do is reinforce her notion that all Mordian’s are toy soldiers too uptight to have an ounce of self-preservation. Balls to that, Prue thinks, I’m not letting the first decent one of them I’ve met get killed. Drawing herself up to her fullest height and squaring her shoulders, Dekker steps up next to Treston, ready to riddle the truck with lasbolts if it so much as rocks on its axles.

Ilona barely glanced at the card Cudjal proffered, her guard was up and she didn't want to take too much attention off the driver and the damned truck. In the nearby area she could hear another Mordian beginning the auspex scan, that would hopefully put this thing's oddity to rest. "Just a suspicious truck." She answered. "If the Auspex doesn't return anything, we should do a more thorough search." She left unsaid the uncertainty gnawing at the back of her mind. She'd heard Lucifer Blacks were on planet. From Holy Terra itself. What the hell was one doing out here by himself?

It was unknown if Specialist Treston heard the driver, but her auspex would indeed confirm that there were 6 lifeforms detected inside the truck, one being the driver. The unfeeling truck was not intimidated by Specialist Dekker’s display of bravado. Its aura continued to seem wrong to the Ork Hunter; almost taunting her. When Trooper Bembenak spoke of how the truck seemed suspicious and may warrant a more thorough search, the Lucifer Black’s blue eyes froze on the Mordian for a moment before moving back to Cudjal. “Suspicious?” he asked, “I get you don't see a hardshell every day, but suspicious?"

Cudjal furrowed his brow at the driver's words to his supporting Mordian. "Hardshell?" he said, making it clear that he had never heard the term above or below ground.
His own level of suspension or drought with be up to the driver to decide.

“Suspicious?” he asked, “I get you don't see a hardshell every day, but suspicious?" The driver suddenly has the barrel of a lascarbine shoved through the window into his face. “You know throne-damned well what is going on. Tell us what’s in the truck, soldier” Dekker snarls through her gasmask. The man’s evasive attitude has driven her into a fury. She can tell the others feel the dread too, if not as keenly as her finely tuned danger senses can. The driver must be aware of the effect. He could be causing the effect. Silly buggers ends now. Dekker’s getting to the bottom of this the best way she knows how. ((Forceful roll of 3 to get the driver to take this seriously. If that’s not enough I could tap her Beware the Quiet Ones aspect for a total of 5))
