The air was a bit chilly but alight with anticipation for the coming of Candlemass. The streets of Harvest were bustling more than usual both due to families gathering to celebrate and Guardsmen being pulled off the frontlines for a much-needed break. However, that did not mean anyone was idle. Imperial Guard High Command has decided to throw a party for Candlemass but recognize that in doing so could also make them more vulnerable to attack or infiltration. In response, it was decided that the stoic Janissaries that usually man the gates and walls would be augmented with more troopers from other regiments to dissuade such. With troops pulled from the frontlines meant there were plenty more people to take the burden without pulling from other positions or cutting corners with the Candlemass preparations. Over the month troopers from the many regiments were sprinkled in to serve alongside the Janissaries; a little bit at first to iron out differences in doctrine and culture before sections of walls and even gates were made up of mostly non-Janissary Guard. Few people took the news well, especially those assigned to the duty, but all recognized its necessity as both Candlemass and the end of the year drew close. They did take solace in knowing that by taking guard duty now near guaranteed that they were going to be free for the Candlemass party.
Unfortunately for you, you have guard duty during the Candlemass party.
There are many reasons on why this could have happened; you volunteered, got “volu-told”, took it in exchange for reward and favors, someone calling in a favor, punishment for a misdeed real or imagined, spite from a superior arranging rosters, algorithmic logic, or simple bad luck. Regardless of why, fate has decided you have duty at that time and there is no way of getting out of it. Whether you knew your fate at the beginning of the month or the night before Candlemass, you'll sleep that night knowing what you have to do tomorrow.
The morning of Candlemass was chilly, but as usual on Haven’s Garden there was no snow. The hours seemed to speed by but were agonizing all the same until it finally became time to report to the guard house for duty. You are to take your post at the southern outer wall gate that separate the actual city of Harvest from the outskirts and check people attempting to get into the city. You get passed down the events of last shift, which was essentially that a lot of people came through, and the duty logbook was passed to Commissar Malcolm Lucan acting as the shift's Duty Officer of the gate before the previous shift left to likely go enjoy the festivities you’re being left out of. Hopefully since it was the evening it’ll be a quiet night as the sun starts to set in a clear sky.
The southern outer wall gate has a enter and exit gate with the guard house in between. The guard house is fortified with a heavy bolter and firing slits, had cameras looking on both sides of the gate, a vox line to call command, and stairs to go up to the walls where Janissaries manned heavy weapon emplacements. Your shift has also been given an auspex to scan vehicles with. By the enter gate there was a parking lot and jailhouse for searching and detaining people that was guarded by Janissaries. There was a barrier one could raise at the enter and exit gate meant to both stop rushing vehicles and act as cover for guards. There was also the actual gate door which was a solid metal slab which can fall from above cutting off all entry from the outside. The Janissaries at the walls or the jailhouse can come assist when necessary, but you are responsible for manning your post as they are theirs.
----
Your orders are as follows:
You must remain on post until you’re either relieved or ordered by a Commissar or the Duty Officer. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action. Someone must remain at the gate unless ordered by High Command. Failure in this regard will result in disciplinary action for everyone assigned to duty at the gate. Ensure security of the gate while obeying the above.
While on gate guard duty you must ask everyone who seeks entry their ID, their reason for entry, and scan their cargo if they have a vehicle. If they fail to produce ID and everything else passes or is not suspicious then detain them until either a verified noble, Commissar, or Officer at Major or above can identify them, or a Departmento Munitorum official comes to retrieve them for further processing.
For those any Guardsmen views as suspicious they have the authority to ask for further verification such as blood tests, pat downs, more in depth searches, and other methods listed in the Uplifting Primer along with detain them for however long you deem necessary to prove their identity and/or eliminate suspicion.
If they refuse to answer your questions or have their cargo inspected turn them away. Detain and report anyone you suspect are heretics, rogue psykers, mutants, xenos, or xeno influenced immediately for detention and interrogation by a Commissar, Officer, Astartes, or other designated personnel. You have the authority to use whatever force necessary to put down any belligerents and kill any traitors that refuse to cooperate.
Remember, while on duty you are a representative of the Astra Militarum. Conduct yourself accordingly.
For Duty Officer/Duty Sergeant/Most senior trooper running the gate:

For Duty Officer/Duty Sergeant/Most senior trooper running the gate:
Record any significant events such as the start and end of shift, the exit and entry of patrols, detention of people, instances of belligerence, calls to and from command, arrival and departure of command personnel and specialists assisting or inspecting the gate, and other unusual events into the duty logbook. Date all entries. The logbook must remain at or around the gate at all times unless being passed on to a relieving Duty Officer or ordered by Command. Failure to record events, tampering of current or previous entries, negligent damage to the logbook, or losing the logbook will result in extreme disciplinary action.
Command has received reports that heretics will be attempting to infiltrate the city during Candlemass. Be vigilant for any attempts of diversion, smuggling of munitions and material, and signs of heretical tendencies or affiliation. Detain anyone you suspect to be a heretic for questioning by Command.
