“Like the enthusiasm, but have to do passdown first.” Cudjal looked at the Tallarn for a moment before nodding and moving back towards the stairs. As the duty briefing commenced, Cudjal was no so surprised about how much went into working the gate. What he was surprised about was that they were all told about the details and not just the Commissar. As with a lot of things he was finding out these days, things are different outside of the sewers. Usually he'd be just told to watch a tunnel entrance and report anything unusual. Now he wondered if that was just because the sewers were a more simpler matter or if the PDF were just not trusted with more complicated matters. Cudjal didn't ask any questions when the option was given. He simply waited for orders or direction. He had already made a slight fool of himself already, best not to make more assumptions.

Yeah, why in The Golden Throne’s Name am I here? Treston thinks to herself.
Truthfully she is pretty sure she knows why. Officially it was in case someone got hurt or injured she could provide medical attention. Probably more for those guarding the gate rather than any refugees trying to get in. However, she was fairly certain she was actually assigned guard duty as some sort of punishment. Maybe her humor rubbed someone the wrong way, or maybe she failed an inspection or some other slight. It didn’t matter. She was here now, and like any good Mordian she was going to fulfill her duty. That didn’t mean she’d have to like it.
“Are we expecting anything or anyone special today or should we treat this like any other night?” she asks.

"Well, I'd argue that you already have one," he smirked, eyeing the Commissar, "However, aside from the two patrols I mentioned there shouldn't be any other coming back through this gate. There weren't any patrols scheduled to go out either last I checked. As for other surprised, I heard a rumor that someone from High Command might come by." He paused to think before saying, "So no, this is not like any other night. It's Candlemass. All sorts of unusual things can happen. Saying that, I could perhaps send someone to get you all a treat when I get to it."

Prue listens to the brief as closely as she can, so her mind wanders immediately to happier thoughts of the warm interior of the festival hall. She comes back to the present as a question nags at the back of her mind. “So uh, if you’re not staying, who’s got rank, chief?” She glances at the commissar, technically not an officer but with definite authority.

Ilona waited with a stoicism that many expected of the Mordians. She'd had gate duty before, multiple times with her squad. Never before in such an "ad-hoc" fashion as this. But the Commissar hadn't deemed it necessary to inspect her uniform or shoot her for tardiness, and there was another Mordian in the same building as she. So there were three things that had gone her way tonight.
Without specific orders she waited for the Lieutenant to leave and the Commissar to give instructions. That was how things were supposed to work, she was sure.

"His name was listed as Duty Officer of the Gate today, so he's the one in charge of you," Lieutenant Zaman said as he pointed at the Commissar, "In the event that the Commissar has to step out for some reason then the billet will fall to the next highest rank person, being the specialist over there." He'd point a thumb to the Mordian medic. "After that, whoever she picks. Frankly it shouldn't come to that though. Whoever's in charge though should probably have the logbook since the book never leaves the post unless ordered," he took a moment to peek at his chrono before looking at everyone else, "Is there anything else that the Commissar can't explain for you?"

Hearing nothing from the rest of the troopers, Lieutenant Zaman would give a nod. “Well then, you shouldn’t need it but good luck to you all,” he said, “Happy Candlemass.”
With that he placed the auspex on the table before he walked out the “exit” side door. If one cared to watch they’d see him join a group of other various troopers from behind the wall before walking away.
In the setting sun one could just make out the outline of something approaching on the road cutting through the small houses, shacks, and shanties of those who couldn’t enter Harvest for one reason or another. As it got closer it looked to be a truck typically used by the Imperium and it became clear they were heading toward the gate. It’d probably be upon them in less than 10 minutes.

"Truck comin'." Cudjal called back over his shoulder. Dispute his mouth being curled as to hold the now lit lho stick at the corner of his lips, this had been the loudest he had been since he had started the guard shift.
He had moved over to the entry point after they had received the brief, standing just behind where the barrier could be raised. From there he had been checking IDs and simply watching the little activity around the area. It was a lot more that what he was use to seeing. It was both pleasant and a little intimidating at the same time.
He faced forward towards the approaching truck, ready to go though the motions. Or simply watch if someone else wanted to step in.

A slight frown flickers across Treston’s face when she realizes she would be incharge after the Commissar. Bad enough to have to keep this rabble stitched together, let alone have to give commands and make judgements on them. And then double that for all whom might be attempting to pass through.
The frown only lasts a brief moment, barely noticeable. But long enough for anyone who was good at reading Mordian Stoicisms, that she was displeased with this knowledge.
Upon the Private, Cudjal she believed he said his name was, warning, Treston’s first instinct was to press the button to raise the barrier. She pauses briefly, pondering if the Commissar would take it as a slight that she acted without orders. Or would he rather she act without direct orders? Instead she takes the simpler approach.
“With your permission, Commissar, shall we raise the barrier?”

Dekker finds a spot to stand where she can be out of the wind but still visible in order to loom menacingly. She puts down her goggles and buckles her mask on, both to keep out the cold and to add to the intimidation factor.

The sun sunk lower as the truck got closer. It was clear to the gate troopers that it at least seemed to be a truck they've likely seen dozens of times throughout the base. While often used for transporting goods and personnel from the base to the frontline, it's also not uncommon for them to be requisitioned for reconnaissance since it was less conspicuous than a Sentinel or Chimera. In the dimming light they could see the driver's light colored shemagh often associated with the Tallarn. The truck would slow as it approached the gate before stopping unprompted a couple of meters away from where the barrier would be if it popped out.
The question now stands on how the troopers wish to proceed processing their first vehicle of the shift.

Cudjal would stand in the way of the truck, not budging until it comes to a stop. Even then he takes a moment before slowly meandering towards the diver's widow.
Some would say it was stupid to stand in front of the truck and that it would only lead to him becoming a red stain on the ground if it didn't stop. Though Cudjal couldn't care less. It he died, at least to would be I fresh air. A fate a lot of his ancestors weren't granted and something he wasn't likely to receive either.
Cranking his neck to look up to the window, Cudjal gave the international sign to lower the window. Once the drive was exposed, he took a moment to observe them. Or just stare at them. With Cudjal it could be one or the other. "Identification and driver's license." he finally said after a moment with all the enthusiasm of a till servitor at a grot dispenser station.
The drives license was an unusual request, considering that most driver's these days didn't have any form of license, let alone one for a truck. Cudjal just wanted to see how the driver would react.

Trooper Bembenek moved to support Cudjal as he queried the driver, her expression matching the private's mood as she kept her rifle in a firm grip, watching the vehicle for any signs of aggression. Inwardly she thought the request for the driver's license wasn't going to go anywhere fruitful, but now that he'd requested it she needed to be ready to back up the request with the threat of imminent death should the driver become belligerent.
After all, according to training and upbringing on Mordian, the only sort of mercy the Emperor showed was a bolt to the head. If that was the example given, it was likely the only sort of mercy the Guard could show as well.

Getting a closer look at the driver, Private Cudjal and Trooper Bembenek would see a tired woman at the wheel with sky blue eyes and a couple tufts of chestnut hair framing her face. Rolling down the window, she managed to summon a smile for the PDF trooper which quickly turned into confusion when he asked for her driver's license. She shuffled for a moment before producing an ID card and holding it out for him to take. If he looked at it'd identify her as Sergeant Kari Ramzi of the Tallarn 165th Armored Desert Raiders.
The others at the gate could see movement on the other side of the truck, likely other civilians seeking to gain entry into the city. Trooper Dekker could easily intercept if she wanted to, and it was probably her intimidating presence that made them think twice about trying to sneak in. At the front was a man in matted brown robes who wasn't the most pleasant smelling. He kept looking around, likely considering whether it was okay to go in or not.

Dekker swings around to block the space between the truck and the wall, her bulky frame filling space admirably. She eyes the shuffling crowd through her goggles, with her lascarbine slung across her chest, visible but not aimed at anyone. “Papers, mate? Trying to get through the gate I’ma need to see your ID” She darts a quick glance towards the gatehouse to make sure she’s visible to the others, then gestures the pedestrians forward, “Come on you lot, you’re allowed in with an ID as long as you’re not a heretic or an alien, come on.”
