Name: Hildred
Gender: Female
Species: Aeldari/Drukhari
Age: 39 Terran years
Height: 6’ 6”
Weight: 157 lbs.
Allegiance: Harlequin Masque of Ash Winter
Rank/Occupation: Player
Notes: Often plays the role of "The Critic”
Born: Commorragh
Languages Spoken: Aeldari, Low Gothic, High Gothic, T’au, maybe others
Appearance:
Hildred’s most notable feature is her heterochromatic eyes. Her right eye is a dark chocolate brown while her left eye is bright sky blue. Her eyes have been that way since she was born. Like most Drukhari, she has snow pale skin. However, there are several scars along her body; most concentrated on her back from various whips, hooks, and blades. Her most noticeable scar though is the one that runs down across her left eye then curls into the corner of her mouth. Her Harlequin mask mirrors this scar with the right part being white while the left is black, following her scar then a straight line from the other corner of her mouth. The upper lip and her right eye is black while her lower lip and left eye is white. Her holosuit is of the standard blues, greys, and whites colors of her Masque but she also wears a thick blue scarf around her neck with a grey end and white tassels. One end goes behind and the other is in front. She also typically carries a satchel that usually contains books and notes.
History:
Hildred is not her birth name. Like many other Dark Eldar she was vat grown and was made to serve as a menial for the Kabal of the Shattered Glass. Life under the foot of the Kabal was understandably unbearable as she had to suffer under the sadistic tendencies of her overlords. Thanks to her more unique appearance she became a favorite of a few Kabalites; much to her dismay. However, she managed to build and leverage this status just enough to eventually engineer an escape from slavery under the Kabal. She swiftly found that life in the streets and wastes of Commorragh were much, much worse than in the Kabal as she had to fight, hide, cheat, and steal just to simply survive.
Hildred didn't know how long she lived like this but it didn't seem long until a group of slavers managed to abduct her. She was left chained up alone with beasts as her captures debated on who to sell her to. It was during this time, perhaps her lowest moment, that the world seemed to melt around her as a peculiar laugh demanded her attention. From seemingly nowhere a mysterious being approached her, asking her a question. She answered, then was freed as she was led to a webway gate that she never noticed before. Once through she was met with a Shadowseer from the Masque of Ash Winter. She gave herself her current name and was given both a mask and role to play: The Critic. She quickly adopted the teachings and trappings of her new life; being placed in the Dark Troupe due to her lineage as Drukhari.
Hildred was told by a Shadowseer to participate in the "vacation" on Harvest in the Haven System and arrived like several others through the Webway.
Personality:
If Hildred could be described with one word it’ll be measured. She’s quiet to the point that people may forget she’s there. She rarely speaks first or makes the first move, but when she does though it’s sharp, precise, and calculated. Since she demonstrates this in both her actions and words she's often dismissed as cruel, cold, and callous. Any discovering she was a former resident of Commorragh serves to only validate their assertions. After all, what Drukhari wasn’t inherently evil, even if she now served the Laughing God?
However, those few that have gotten closer to Hildred would know that things are a bit more complicated than that. She was given the role of The Critic, and she believes that means she has to seek out flaws in order to help people improve. She genuinely wants to see her peers and others improve, but her role is inherently an antagonistic one. Few like hearing about their flaws or being judged. However, like a sculptor or surgeon she must cut away the bad without damaging the good to unveil it's potential. To ensure there is nothing bad left to grow back she must be sharp and exacting, then follow through with vigilance to ensure it stays gone. Cutting, recovering, and growing in such a fashion is usually a painful process, yet necessary to obtain the greatest work. She acknowledges that perhaps she could be gentler or nicer, but the cruelty in Commorragh left her with a lot of bitterness and spite to the point where it wouldn't be a lie to say that she enjoys cutting people down. However, she derives more satisfaction watching someone improve and wants to help those who try.
A Critic, at least a good one, typically speaks from a place of experience or expertise. While she's experienced a lot in her life so far, Hildred is well aware, and a bit insecure in, that she's very much lacking in both; especially compared to peers who have as many centuries as she has decades. She's not so vain to disregard her own shortcomings (that’d be hypocritical after all) so she tries to make for it with heavy amounts of study and observation to learn. Privately she always questions why she was given this role, but she trusts in the judgement of the Troupe Master, Shadowseers, and the Laughing God himself. With all this effort put into her role, it's hard for her to set it aside.
