Rank/Occupation: Trooper/Private

Born: Farm in Haven's Garden
Languages Spoken: Low Gothic
Appearance:
Otis is a strongly built man with muscles and tan earned from spending most of his life working the fields. He keeps his face clean shaven and his dirty blonde hair cut short so it doesn't get into his dirt brown eyes. While his flak armor and helmet is Chaos black he still wears the tan fatigues of the PDF, though now all of its Imperial markings have been removed and replaced with those of the Reclaimers. Often times when he’s cold or in poor weather he wears a woven black poncho with a dirty orange zigzag going laterally that was made by his mother. One might be able to spot a few patches he’s made. It should be noted that the orange part can glow in the dark slightly when clean.
History:
Otis Wheatson was born on the family farm to a hardworking father and loving mother with two older siblings. Besides two more siblings following him, he had a fairly standard farm upbringing with the priests occasionally holding school sessions. He knew that he wasn't going to inherit the farm so around age 18 he joined the PDF to see the world a bit and make some connections as he tries to figure out his next step.
Otis was serving in Harvest when the Great Rift opened. He didn't think much of things until suddenly his comrades decided to turn on each other in what later became known as the Abandonment. He never picked a side except survival and fled the city before the Imperial Guard to get him like they did others. He stayed on the farm and helped defend it from marauders during the Rages. During this time his father was killed and Reggie, the oldest brother, became the head of the farm. At some point during this time a group calling themselves the “Reclaimers” came and actually talked to them instead of trying to kill or loot them. The deal was simple, food for protection, and swiftly accepted. Otis went back with the Reclaimers to volunteer for their military force as he tries to adjust to his new life.
Personality:
Otis is a simple man. He wants his family, farm, and home to be safe and well and he hasn't put much thought and focus beyond that. A lot of recent events has made him question everything he knew but those things aren’t at the forefront of his mind. He’s witnessed the PDF and Imperial Guard shooting people so he obviously doesn’t trust them, especially now that he’s fallen in with this “Reclaimer” lot. He recognizes he isn't the brightest of bulbs which can make him a bit naive, but that's more born out of ignorance than idiocy. He isn't blind to the fact that several of his new comrades are what can only be classified as deranged. These “Chaos Gods” they keep talking about don’t seem that great either and they don’t seem to care much for the liberation of their planet besides a battleground to fight the Imperium. However, he does trust in Bruce Shedwater’s vision and thinks his life is better off with him and without the Imperium.
Life on the farm taught Otis the importance and value of hard work and his time in the PDF instilled some discipline so he’ll give his best in what he’s assigned too. He tries not to let hardship get him down but sometimes it’s really hard, especially since he’s now in a war. A lot of the world suddenly opened up to him, forcing him to learn a lot really quickly and question things he already knew. He tries to be affable and be easygoing, but given how bizarre, frightening, and seemingly malicious these new “Lost” are he tries to avoid them, instead finding company with other natives.
